Let's go vertical here for a few images from my 2009 trip to Rome. I happened upon this scene on the Via Panisperna, in the Monti neighborhood not far from the Roman Forum. This crane was there to move furniture into a top floor of a palazzo that clearly must have had very tiny stairs. In Amsterdam, many of the homes are equipped with winches for the same purpose.
